Cellulite

Cellulite is a cosmetic problem that affects mostly women. It is characterized by dimpled, lumpy skin on the thighs, buttocks, and stomach. While cellulite is not a health hazard, it can be unsightly and make people feel insecure about their appearance.

There are several theories as to what causes cellulite, but the most likely cause is a combination of factors. These include genetics, hormones, diet, and lifestyle. There is no sure way to prevent cellulite, but there are some things you can do to reduce its appearance. These include eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding tight clothing that can exacerbate its appearance.

How to tell the severity of your cellulite?

  • Lumpy or dimpled skin is a sign of cellulite. Depending on your skin type, it may be visible all the time or may only be visible when you pinch your skin. You can tell the severity of cellulite you have through this severity scale.
  • Mild or Grade 1: Your skin has an ‘orange-peel’ appearance with slight depressions. It may also look a little saggy in some individuals. Your skin may look smooth when you stand but when you sit the depressions become conspicuous.
  • Moderate or Grade 2: Your skin has a “cottage cheese” appearance and the skin has a slight sag. It’s obvious when you wear tight-fitting clothing.
  • Severe or Grade 3: Your skin has a “mattress” appearance with very pronounced depressions and is very saggy as well.
  • How to get rid of cellulite.

There are many remedies that have been used to get rid of cellulite. Some are remedies you can execute yourself while some may require other cosmological treatments. The option that will work for you is dependent on the kind of cellulite you have.

If you have a Grade 1 or mild cellulite appearance, simple remedies like topical treatments, exercise and a few lifestyle and dietary changes may suffice.

Topical treatments include the use of certain products on your skin daily such as creams that contain caffeine and/or retinol. These are known to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of bumpiness. Some people are known however, to react to certain ingredients in some of these creams.

It is essential to do a patch test before opting for any topical treatments. You can also contact us for recommendations. Certain exercises such as aerobics, running and cycling can help with body toning, giving the skin a thickening appearance. Persons with Grade 2 can also apply these remedies however, they might need to be done more frequently to see results.

If you have severe cellulite or keen on seeing faster results, you need to combine home remedies with cosmetic treatments such as deep massage, cool sculpting, ultra sounds wave therapy, radiotherapy liposuction, mesotherapy, dry brushing or laser treatments.
